Story Title: My friends liked him better
By: Ed Quigley
There are far too many memories but one of the favorite things I liked to tease Ron about was when he used to play basketball at my parent’s house on East 78th Street. I had friends who wanted to know when Ron was coming over again so they could get a game going yet they rarely asked when I was available to “play”.

Ron and I graduated from a small high school class in ’63 and I clearly recall the quality of his singing voice, his basketball skills, and his willingness to be of service to others. We went different paths but Ron, with then is blond hair and flat top, will remain in my memory as a faith-based man who worked to be use his God-given talents in being a loyal friend and serving others.

So sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. I worked with him for many years at Mayflower and he had gone to Latin School with my brother and brother-in-law. He was a great guy, always happy, and always helpful. I enjoyed working with him and knowing him. He always had a smile on his face. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear about Ron passing. he was a true friend and great business partner who taught me much about life and people that I carry with me to this day. Heaven has a new ranger on the golf course now.

Ron and I go back to the early 70s when I was with Mayflower in Detroit. He was a great dispatcher then and continued to go up the ladder through the years. We kept in touch from time to time up until 2 years ago. We always had our memorable stories about truckers to talk and laugh about. He had the gift of persuading truckers, employees, and customers to trust him to guide them. We will miss you Ron!

My family and I are so very sorry for your loss. We had not seen him or Susie for years until Alexander’s funeral. He was a beautiful man and had a smile of a saint. Our hearts go out to all of his family.

Suzi, We are so sorry to hear about Ron. We do speak of the wonderful times we had at Game Club back in the good ole days. And, when the gang came up north with the Mayflower motor home to go skiing at Swiss Valley, and the chili was spilled going through Kokomo! Lots of fun times, memories, which will always be with us.

Household Goods Traffic Planner, International Sales, STS Regional Manager, Comdisco Account Executive — these are some descriptors of a lengthy period in Ron’s Mayflower career. All handled with a rare combination of skill, diplomacy, loyalty and class that evoke many great memories.

We share the level of sadness that is surely felt by all of the family and friends who have had the privilege to be some part of his life.

Like many others, I knew Ron from my Mayflower days, especially from my International Sales role where Ron was not only a great business mentor to me; but, also a good friend who regularly taught me patience in my repeated ’losses’ to him during our weekly Mayflower employee tennis matches. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you and your family bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer. It was a privilege to know Ron and I’ll miss seeing him at Grace Community Church.
